Ch. 4 Journey to a "New Earth" by Vincent

Jupiter
“Today we are going very near to Jupiter and we’ll get help from the gravity of Jupiter to move faster in order to get to NE (“New Earth”) as soon as possible.” Paul says during the morning meeting. “That’s… really… crazy, isn’t… it?” Sunny asks. “Yes,” I answer him, “that’s dangerous! If our spaceship falls into Jupiter and it isn’t strong enough, our spaceship will be tear into pieces!”
Sunny and I are looking through the window at Jupiter at the moment. This huge planet is so magical.
“Hey, come on! It’s going to be Chinese New Year tomorrow! Let’s send messages to our families. I think they’ll be excited about that.” I try to say positive enough to break the ice, with a phone in my right hand. To my surprise, instead of being happier, his mode becomes even worse. “No… and… never!” he says in a certain way. “Why?” I ask. “You’ll… know… that…, but… not… now.” he says secretly.
“All the astronauts, go back to your own rooms, and keep quiet. The spaceship is getting near to Jupiter.” Captain Paul says through the microphone. We walk in our room together, and lie down.
Jupiter is so big! Though we’re still a bit far away from it, I’ve already known the power of this huge planet. “Full power!” says the captain. The sound of the engines becomes louder and louder. Just as we think that this tiny room is too noisy to stay in, a large sound comes from the back of the spaceship where is used to place one of the largest engines that is in the possession of this huge space ship. Then the large sound of the engines gets smaller and smaller, and the disappeared. The familiar sound of the system of the spaceship comes into our ears: “1 engine broken. Correction: 5 engines broken. Correction: 7 engines broken. Correction: 11engines broken…” “That’s… bad!” Sunny complains. “Which means we’re falling into Jupiter!” I cried. At almost the same moment, the whole spaceship starts to fall down into Jupiter and the speed of it is growing quicker and quicker. “Tell all the managers to fix them at once!” Paul says in a bad temper. unfortunately, almost three fourths of the engines are totally damaged and none of the managers can fix them in time. “The… only… way… is… to… keep… those… engines… that… are… not… damaged… to… keep… the… spaceship… from… falling… too… quickly.” Sunny suggested.
Paul does what Sunny said. He turned all the engines that are not damaged but the spaceship is still falling down very quickly. “It’s lucky that Jupiter isn’t made of solid or liquid. But according to the speed of our spaceship now, it’s still very dangerous to do so. it’s a competition between Jupiter and our spaceship.” Paul says.
We’re getting very close to the atmosphere of Jupiter. Things outside the window becomes slur, and soon, the only color left outside the window is red.
“The temperature outside is 980 degrees centigrade. and the highest temperature that our spaceship can bear is 2700 degrees centigrade. It seems that we can go across the Jupiter, but the storms on the Jupiter may tear our craft into pieces.” I told Paul my thought. Emmet cried: “Oh! my god! Hope god will bless us! Or we’ll die…” “He’s always so negative.” I told Sunny.
Ten minutes later, our spaceship starts to shake fiercely. I guess we’ve already entered the atmosphere of Jupiter. The whole spaceship is shaking just like a large earthquake that happens on Earth. The sound going from the rickety spaceship body is becoming larger and larger which makes many astronauts scared. A large sound suddenly comes from the head of it and all of us are shocked: Part of the spaceship is broken!
During the next thirty minutes, dozens of strange sounds which comes from different parts of the spaceship scares us so many times. Suddenly, another ten minutes later, all the things go back to silence. “Here… we… are! Welcome… to… Jupiter!” Sunny says in a humorous way. All of us in the control room smiled at one another. But we still have to go through these sorts of things again on our way away from Jupiter.
(To be continued.)
